Fullerton Island Restoration

Fullerton Island is located off the Intracoastal Waterway north of Indiantown Road and south of the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter, Florida. Jupiter purchased the island in 2008 for open space purposes and the 11.7 acre island has remained dormant since then.

Jupiter has decided to restore the beauty of Fullerton Island with mangroves and to make the island park ready with 6 docks and ready for kayakers to visit. There will also be an observation tower. The addition of mangroves will allow a more diverse habitat there and also the upland area will allow for people to picnic and for kayakers to have a trail through the middle of the island.

The costs will include the $2.9 million Jupiter originally paid for the island and the county will pay the additional $3.6 million to complete the project. The work is expected to begin in the spring and could be completed in six months.
